Brunswick County is located in a coastal plain region of southeastern NC. Known for it’s stellar list of NC beaches, including Bald Head Island, the southernmost point of North Carolina. Think bike riding and trips to the ice cream shop, Take a visit to the Oak Island Lighthouse, located in the town of Caswell Beach, not far from the mouth of the Cape Fear River. Built in 1958, Oak Island Lighthouse is one of the youngest lighthouses to line the NC shores. For the ultimate day of golf, visit The Course At Oak Island. Many Wilmington locals enjoy this golf course, being only 30 minutes away. Head to the Oak Island pier and hang out at Koko Cabana Restaurant, and choose anything from fried green tomatoes to local seafood dishes. Another great restaurant option is Rusty Hooks Dockside Grill with food fare including anything from crab cakes to tacos, fresh seafood plates to ribeyes. With a full bar, ‘Southport Magazine’ notes it as “Best Dinner With A View.” Don’t forget to visit The Point at Oak Island. With great shelling and beautiful maritime views, its the perfect spot for fishing the sound or watching the sunset. For more water views and a bit of cornhole competition, visit Lone Riders, with seafood, burgers and wings, this brewery is a hot spot. Of course the water is the main attraction at Oak Island. There are more than 60 public access points and two fishing piers (Oak Island Pier and Ocean Crest Pier), giving beach days the center stage!

Wrightsville Beach Outdoors: Things To Do

Many families, even locals within an hour, choose to spend a week or two vacationing every year. Many families have chosen to make Ocean Isle and Sunset Beaches their permanent or second home. Ocean Isle Beach & Sunset Beach - Set In Tradition

Take an out of the box sight seeing walk to the Kindred Spirit Mailbox, located on Bird Island, where people walk just to put their secret thoughts, dreams, prayers, all written down on a piece of paper. The walk to the box itself brings soothing ocean sounds and birds chirping, while viewing parts of the undeveloped beach. The unique mailbox was the inspiration for author, Nicholas Sparks. His novel, Every Breath features Sunset Beach and the Kindred Spirit Mailbox. Our NC southeastern beaches have given much inspiration and are highlighted in his books, including Southport, NC.
